Dear guests – dear friends from Poland.

I want to wish you welcome here to Klaksvik. You have traveled to our country with your women’s national team, and if there is one single place in the world, where women football is strong, it’s here in Klaksvik.

14 years in a row the Klaksvik women’s team has won the National championship. At the moment they are on top of the league, and if they win again this year, they will set a new world record for most championships won in a row by anyfootball team in the world.

Our women’s team is the only team in Europe that has participated in every single UEFA Women’s Champions League. The UEFA competition was founded in 2001 and our women’s team has participated every year. In 2004 they played a mini tournament in Wroclaw.

I should also mention that the last time our men’s team won the league, they had two excellent players from Poland in the team. One of them, Marek, still lives in our town, and we consider him as one of our own.

Klaksvik is the fishing capital of the Faroe Islands. Our city and our local area is a major player in international fishing industries. And we also have cooperation with Poland. In the last 5 years one of our companies here in Klaksvik has sold pelagic fish worth 40 million euros to Poland. So you might have tasted fish from the Faroe Islands at home in Poland.

Tonight the women’s team of Faroe Islands and Poland will play an international match here in the Faroes. We are very glad to have you here and we know, that all around the world football is like a family. And even though the teams will fight against each other tonight, we all are friends of football.

I hope you have enjoyed your stay here in the Faroe Islands, and I also hope that the rest of your stay will be pleasant – maybe not too pleasant at 5 o’clock today.

I have a small gift to our Polish friends, that I would like to hand to the head of delegation.
