Stórsligin vitjan

John William Joensen

Dear organizers, crew and guests!

It is a great pleasure for me as Mayor of Klaksvík to welcome you to visit our town. Hopefully you will experience all our community as well as all the northern islands.

It is hearthwarming to see again our old Norrøna, now Logos Hope. A ship, that most of us here in the Faroe Islands have good memories of.

It is gratifying to see, that this ship has now become an instrument in preaching the good news of the gospel all over the world. With 350 people from 45 different countries from all over the world, you have proved that it is possible to work together and be in harmony no matter colour or race.

It will be a blessing for us to see our town be visited by 350 mostly young christian people from today until Sunday night, when you leave Klaksvík and head for Northern Ireland.

It touches one’s heart to hear the story that started it all, the story of Mrs. Dorothea Clapp, who in the 1950’s started to pray for highschool students, that the Lord should win their heart and send some of them to preach the gospel to other people.

She gave the Gospel of John to one of the students, who later gave his life to the Lord at a Billy Graham meeting. This young man was George Werver, the founder of OM – Operation Mobilisation.
Who could imagine, that what one single woman started in the 1950’s, would result in this big Operation Mobilisation. Today over 5400 people are working for OM in over 110 countries bringing the gospel to millions of people every year.

Our thoughts go back to 1850, the time, when the famous scottish missionary and doctor, David Livingstone, obeyed the Lord’s call to preach the gospel to distant tribes. One hundred years before Mrs. Dorothea Clapp was lead to pray for the young students, David Livingstone went to Africa, where he travelled through the Kalahari desert and along the Zambezi River.

The Lord worked through David Livingstone in the 19th century, through Mrs. Dorothea Clapp and George Werver in the 20th century and still today in the 21 century God works through you all, who are a part of OM and Logos Hope. David Livingstone preached the gospel in the jungle of Africa and your work is to preach the gospel by visiting big cities and travel great seas. In Mark’s chapter 16 verse 15 we read… Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. This verse in the Bible you have chosen to live by.

I hope that you all will feel at home in Klaksvík. The town is yours these days, and I sincerely hope, that you will experience our beatyful nature, and hopefully our good weather as well as our hospitality.

May the Lord bless you all and the work, you are a part of.
Heartly welcome to Klaksvík!

Thank you.
