Multicultural Week – part of Virkið Heyst in Klaksvík

SKRIVAÐ: klaksvik.fo  |  06.10.2025 - 15:51 Tíðindi

This year, Multicultural Week is part of Virkið Heyst, a cultural event hosted by Klaksvík Municipality. The focus of Virkið Heyst is on community, creativity, and ABC for mental health – where A stands for Act, B for Belong, and C for Commit.

During the week, there will be several exciting events – including two creative workshops, a city tour, and an information meeting about the new integration law. All events are designed to bring people together across cultures, through fun and shared experiences.

Join Our Workshops
The workshops are open to everyone – locals and newcomers – and no experience is needed. The goal is to meet each other, share culture, and have fun while creating something together.

Food Workshop
In this workshop, we prepare food as a group – and enjoy it together! You will discover new flavours and learn about different food traditions.

Craft Workshop
This is a relaxed and creative space where you can try Greenlandic and Faroese crafts. You don’t need to be an artist – just come and join in!

Join the City Tour
New to Klaksvík? Come on a special city walk for newcomers!
On this tour, you’ll hear local stories, funny details, and learn about “unwritten rules” – the things locals know but don’t usually share. You’ll also meet others and get to know your new town in a relaxed way.

The city tour starts at 17:45
Meeting place: Klaksvík Library (Klaksvíkar Bókasavn), Biskopstøðgøta 9

Info Meeting: New Integration Law
After the tour, you're welcome to join an information meeting about the new integration law.

The meeting starts at 19:00
Location: Varpið, Klaksvíksvegur 2

You can join one or both events – everyone is welcome!

Let’s meet, share, and celebrate the power of community during Virkið Heyst in Klaksvík!

Heilsunevndin releases a new children’s book!
The Health Committee in Klaksvík has published a brand-new children’s book called Andrea flytur til Klaksvíkar (“Andrea Moves to Klaksvík”).

The story is written in Faroese and follows Andrea, a young girl who moves to Klaksvík with her parents. Andrea’s mother has a foreign background, and the book explores what it’s like to move to a new place and become part of a new community.

The goal of the book is to recognise, include, and celebrate the many different cultures that are part of Klaksvík Municipality today.

This book is also a way to start conversations – about identity, belonging, and the rich stories from around the world that children and families bring with them.

Every culture has its own beautiful stories to tell. With this book, we want to honour those stories – and show children that all backgrounds are welcome and valuable.

The book will be shared with schools and kindergartens in the area and will also be available for families who want to read together at home.
