On behalf of The Commitee of Harbour, Commerse and Industry I am very happy to welcome you to the city of Klaksvík. All of you, that have visited here before, and specially you, who visit here the first time.
Surrounded by towering mountains we have our home. Here our ancestors have lived for centuries. Here they have been met with happy times and sad times, ups and downs, progress and decline. And through good and bad fortunes our town has progressed to a modern society, being a good and safe home for our citizens, open and inviting to our guests and visitors. A small town, we politicians every day try to make a place, where young people want to raise their family.
The world has become smaller, and limitations of time and space have changed, so nothing is the same as it used to be. Local societies today are neither isolated nor left behind, for technology brings everything closer. The globalization is a challenge, but creates possibilities for a town like Klaksvík, and we take up the challenge and envisage the possibilities.
I am very happy that North Atlantic Fish Fair chose Klaksvík. NAFF is in many ways an innovative project and has become un established meeting-place for our industry and foreign guests, for new ideas and progress. You reach far, and the large amount of visitors proves the importance of it, and I hope, you will obtain personal relationship, to meet face to face and share thoughts and meanings that are of much benefit to you.
I grew up with commercial fishery, my father was a fisherman, became shipowner- a small trawler, and he has been in production with goods in connection with the fishing industry – a family business producing gloves for fishermen. So I am used to this culture, and I am looking forward to visiting your exibitions the next days. To see modern solutions and innovative products.
I hope that results from this Fish Fair meeting also can help us in the challenge and requirements for sustainable fishery that all fishery-nations have to deal with.
I wish you luck. And I am happy to welcome you exhibitors, guests and visitors to our homely and friendly Klaksvík, to enjoy the next days and experience our town and local area together with us.
Thank you.
Óluva Klettskarð
