- The new situation may require an adequate response from the Russian side

1) Relations between Russia and the Faroe Islands in the field of fisheries have been for decades built for the benefit of our peoples and contributed to the promotion of the interests of cooperation, rather than confrontation, in this part of the North Atlantic. The steps taken by the Faroese authorities to destroy these mutually beneficial relations, which were created by the joint efforts of previous generations of our citizens, are deeply disappointing.
2) The decision on how to ensure security is the sovereign right of the Faroe Islands and Denmark. However, practical experience shows that strengthening ties with NATO always comes at the expense of relations with Russia.
3) The fact that the Faroese authorities imposed the restrictions on Russian fishing vessels contradicts the previous logic of our relations in the field of fisheries. This is both a lesson and a new reality. Russia will have to reassess the reliability of the Faroe Islands as a fishing partner and the contribution of the Faroe Islands to the development of the situation in the North Atlantic.
4) The Faroe Islands are not a part of the EU. The Faroe Islands - unlike Norway - have not previously joined the anti-Russian sanctions of EU against Russia. Such a policy ensured unhindered access for Faroese fish and fish products to the Russian market and was the basis for cooperation in the field of fisheries in general. The result is clear - the economy of the Faroe Islands was on the rise. For the first time in history, GDP per capita in the Faroe Islands was higher than in Denmark. Now the Faroe Islands are moving away from the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia. The new situation may require an adequate response from the Russian side.
5) There are reasonable doubts that Torshavn is ready to build relations with Russia in the field of fisheries on a non-discriminatory basis. Cooperation with the Faroe Islands on the fisheries matter can only be carried out in the conditions of mutual benefit. The fate of the agreement depends on this. The Russian side will not make unilateral concessions and will not sacrifice the interests of Russian fishermen.
6) Contacts with the authorities of the Faroe Islands are now minimal.
