Bjarki Meitil Bass Faroe Islands
Bjarki Meitil was born and raised in the small fishing community in the Faroe Islands. Music plays an important role in the Faroese society and there were many good musicians and singers in Bjarkis family. Bjarki had a couple of lessons in different instruments: flute, guitar and piano, but it wasnt until he discovered the drumset that he started his musical commitment. After a couple of lessons he started gigging extensively. He soon became member of the most popular rock-band on the islands which had a big following. After playing drums a couple of years he switched to the electric bass and soon dropped the drumset. As opposed to his experience on drumset which was most funk, rock, and pop styles, on bass it has been expanded to jazz, afro-cuban, tango and various south-american folkloric styles as well. Bjarki as had lessons from time to time from professional bassists, but after participating in the Berklee World Scholarsihp Tour and gaining a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music, he decided to attend to gain a more allround music education. While in school in Boston he is active in the busy Boston music scene.
